Championship Update - The Best of the Best

Amidst all the drama of the college basketball world, from transfers to coaching changes, we have a championship game tonight of the two best teams from start of the year to finish. Purdue spent 5 weeks as the #1 team in the country, and UConn 6, and they are ranked #1 (UConn) and #2 (Purdue) in KenPom.

Alabama gave UConn by far its toughest game of the tournament, as it took almost 30 minutes to actually pull away from them and win by "only" 14 points. Purdue stifled NC State, holding them to only 50 points to win by 13.

Even through the coaching news coming in just overnight, hopefully the basketball world can pause and appreciate what is set up to be a great game tonight. The matchup to watch is unquestionably Donovan Clingan vs Zach Edey, as the two seven-footers go at it. Edey certainly has the edge, but it will be a very different look for him having another giant on the floor with him. What motivator will Dan Hurley use for his team, as I'm sure he already exhausted the "they're trying to stop us by cancelling our plane" narrative last game.

While Casey and I are on night shift tonight taking an existing terminal wall down, we'll see which team cuts the nets down to finish their story - do we have our first back to back champion since Florida in '06/'07, or do we have our second ever team to lose to a 16 seed to also come back and win it all the following year?

While the championship is played out tonight, our champion is clinched. No matter the outcome, Lelia has won our bracket. Along with Jim and Rob, those three all had the matchup of UConn vs Purdue correct. However, Jim and Rob are not safe just yet, as a Purdue victory takes the Clouser Clan into 2nd and 3rd. We will see how it finishes out, and rewards sent out after tonight. I also got a certain request for a perpetual trophy from someone who realized they were going to win... I'll look into that as well in a bit.. If UConn and Purdue can get a trophy, why not our winner?
